EISCAT

EISCAT AB (former EISCAT Scientific Association) is research organization that operate incoherent scatter radars in the northernmost parts of the Nordics.

EISCAT conducts ionospheric and atmospheric measurements, as an example EISCAT can observe effects of the aurora borealis or the northern lights. EISCAT operates in three countries: Finland, Norway and Sweden, and the facilities are located north of the Arctic circle. EISCAT is associated with their radar antennas, that are located outside Kiruna in Kasieniemi, Sweden; Sodankylä and Karesuvanto, Finland; Tromsø and Skibotn, Norway and in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. In Tromsø, EISCAT also has a combined ionospheric heating and short-wave radar facility.
