RI-SCALE is structured around six interconnected Work Packages (WPs), each playing a vital role in delivering and validating advanced Data Exploitation Platforms (DEPs) for research infrastructures across Europe. Together, they ensure the project is technically sound, ethically compliant, user-focused, and built for long-term impact.
WP1: Project Management, Ethics & Data Compliance Management
Leading the way.
This work package ensures smooth coordination, financial and quality management, and adherence to ethical and data protection standards across the project. It also oversees risk management and internal governance.

WP2: DEP Data Lifecycle Management
Making data usable and FAIR.
WP2 develops the backbone of DEP data handling—ensuring that research data from different infrastructures can be securely moved, stored, prepared, and reused efficiently in cloud or HPC environments.

WP3: Scalable AI Solutions
Powering research with AI.
This WP builds AI capabilities into the DEPs, including model training, foundation models, and domain-specific applications for health and environment. It also sets up an AI model hub to support reuse and benchmarking.

WP4: Access Management Technologies
Secure, fair and flexible access.
This WP builds the systems that govern how users access services and data. It includes role-based access controls, privacy-preserving identity management, and a credit system to track and manage resource usage across platforms.

WP5: Co-design and integrated Validation
Bringing it all together.
WP5 coordinates technical integration and validation through 12 use cases (scientific and technological). It ensures that the DEPs are practical, scalable, and co-designed with end-users from research and industry.

Maximising adoption and innovation.
From stakeholder engagement and communication to training and sustainability planning, WP6 ensures RI-SCALE reaches the right audiences and delivers lasting impact. It also operates the Competence Centre for AI skills development.
