As research infrastructures (RIs) and data repositories face increasing demand for integrated computational capabilities, new partnership models are emerging to bridge the gap between data and compute.
This session explores two complementary approaches:
1. Extending RI service portfolios with integrated compute
Research infrastructures can expand their offerings by providing “online compute” services such as Virtual Research Environments (VREs) and Trusted Research Environments (TREs). These environments enable users to analyse data directly, going beyond traditional download-based workflows.
While operated by RIs, these services can be hosted on EGI compute centres, creating operational partnerships between RIs and EGI.
2. EGI-hosted environments connected to external repositories
Alternatively, new discovery and application environments can be developed within EGI and connected to existing RI repositories via APIs. These solutions are particularly suited for cross-disciplinary and multinational research use cases.
