On 13–14 October 2025, the RI-SCALE Competence Center hosted a technical workshop at GRNET headquarters in Athens, bringing together technology representatives, use case leads, and technical work package members to advance the development of the RI-SCALE Data Exploitation Platform (DEP). The 1.5-day workshop combined presentations, hands-on sessions, and collaborative discussions, with participants joining both on-site and remotely.
The workshop provided a space for participants to explore existing technologies in the context of RI-SCALE use cases, share experiences, and define requirements for the DEP. Use case representatives highlighted their expectations for the platform, while technology providers presented the solutions they can offer. Through interactive whiteboard sessions and small group exercises, the teams identified development needs, discussed user interface options, and prioritised tasks to ensure that the first release of the DEP meets the needs of the community.
On the first day, sessions focused on interoperability, the overall DEP architecture, and AI lifecycle management. Participants also engaged in demonstrations of related use cases, sharing insights on user experiences and the development of practical tools. The second day built on this foundation, with discussions centered on data management, access and credit management systems, and the allocation of workloads across different computing environments. Parallel meetings for each work package allowed for detailed planning of activities and the definition of concrete steps toward the first DEP release.
The hands-on, interactive format encouraged direct engagement between use case representatives and technology providers, ensuring that solutions are aligned with real user needs.
Key outputs
Key outputs from the workshop included identifying the core workflows and functionalities of the DEP within its two main data categories: sensitive data and data without special usage restrictions. The workshop also drafted a list of features for the first release of the DEP, which will soon be prioritised by the project’s Technical Coordination Board. First implementation will contain Minimum Viable Product features of the data lifecycle management, AI lifecycle management, AAI and service accounting. The first release is planned for early next year. Progress was also made on the DEP’s architecture, particularly regarding its technical implementation. These outcomes will guide the next phases of DEP development and help ensure that the platform delivers practical, user-driven solutions for the RI-SCALE community.
